PACKAGING GUIDELINES

Ensuring the safe transportation of goods is a shared responsibility among all parties in the Skylark Express Delhi. Proper packaging minimizes risks to both people and goods during transit. While our team is trained to handle items with care, improper packaging significantly increases the likelihood of damage. Below are the minimum standards required to ensure your shipment arrives safely and in its intended condition.

Choosing the Right Carton
  • Use the manufacturer’s carton or a similar new carton whenever possible.
  • If using a recycled carton, ensure it is in excellent condition with no damage or compromise to its structure.
  • The carton must retain its internal flaps, as these provide additional structural support. Do not use cartons with missing flaps.
  • For parcels weighing 12 kg or more, heavy-duty double-layered cardboard is required to prevent damage or spillage.
  • Liquid containers, such as wine bottles, must be packaged in double-layered cartons with inserts to keep the bottles secure.
Labeling Requirements
  • Remove all old labels from the carton before shipping to prevent confusion during transit.
  • Attach shipping labels securely to the top of the carton for easy visibility. Never place labels on the bottom of the carton.
  • Do not apply tape over thermal labels, as this can render them unreadable.
  • Include the sender’s details and a contact number, along with the receiver’s phone number, to facilitate quick resolution of delivery issues.
  • Place a duplicate address label inside the package as a backup in case the external label is lost.
Sealing Your Package
  • FUse durable, high-strength shipping tape to seal your package.
  • Apply tape to all edges using the H-tape method to secure the carton completely.
Special Considerations for Satchels
  • Small items traveling in satchels must be cushioned with bubble wrap to protect them during the journey.
  • Items with sharp edges must not be placed in satchels. Instead, wrap them thoroughly in bubble wrap or place them in a sturdy carton to eliminate injury risks.
  • Liquids or glass items must never travel in satchels. Always use a carton with proper padding for these items.
  • Any goods classified as dangerous under IATA regulations.
Handling Unboxed Items
  • Electronics, computers, and other high-value items should be packaged discreetly to reduce the risk of theft. Avoid using packaging that reveals the contents.
  • Plain, unmarked packaging is recommended for such goods.
Risk Mitigation

Skylark Express Delhi may reject shipments that are insufficiently packaged or deemed at medium to high risk of damage. Proper preparation is essential for ensuring the safety of your goods and the efficiency of our operations.

INCO TERMS

EXW (Ex-Works or Ex-Warehouse)
  • The seller makes the goods available at their premises or another designated location (e.g., factory, warehouse). The buyer is responsible for loading, export clearance, and all transportation costs and risks from that point onward.
FCA (Free Carrier)
  • The seller delivers the goods to a carrier or a designated person nominated by the buyer at the seller's premises or another agreed location. It’s important to specify the delivery point clearly, as the risk transfers to the buyer at that point.
FAS (Free Alongside Ship)
  • Food items or beverages requiring refrigeration or specific environmental conditions.
Hazardous Materials
  • Delivery occurs when the goods are positioned alongside the buyer's nominated vessel at the specified port of shipment (e.g., on a quay or barge). From this point, the buyer assumes all costs and risks, including loading onto the ship.
FOB (Free On Board)
  • The seller completes delivery by loading the goods onto the buyer's nominated vessel at the specified port of shipment. The buyer assumes risks and costs once the goods are on board.
CFR (Cost and Freight)
  • The seller is responsible for delivering the goods on board the vessel and covering the costs of transportation to the destination port. However, the buyer assumes the risk of loss or damage once the goods are on board.
CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight)
  • This is similar to CFR, with the added responsibility of the seller arranging minimum insurance coverage for the buyer during transport. The buyer assumes risk upon loading but can negotiate additional insurance if required.
CPT (Carriage Paid To)
  • The seller arranges and pays for the transportation to the agreed destination but transfers the risk to the buyer once the goods are handed over to the first carrier.
CIP (Carriage and Insurance Paid To)
  • Similar to CPT, with the seller providing minimum insurance coverage during transit. The buyer assumes the risk upon handover to the first carrier and may arrange extra insurance if needed.
DAP (Delivered At Place)
  • The seller delivers the goods ready for unloading at the designated destination. The seller bears all costs and risks up to the delivery point, but unloading is the buyer's responsibility.
